All staff, faculty, students and the local community are encouraged to join the Sustainability Club in celebrating Earth Day from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 22. Fresno State is celebrating the 50th year of Earth Day in a unique way this year. For the first time ever, Earth Day is going digital!
Earth Day originated in 1970 when Gaylord Nelson, then a U.S. Senator from Wisconsin, came up with the idea for a national day to focus on the environment. Earth Day occurs every year on April 22. Now with more than a billion people participating annually, Earth Day is used as a day of action to prompt policy action and behavioral change in humans.
This year’s theme for Fresno State’s Earth Day is Clean Water, Energy and Air. There will be various presentations from the following organizations: Central California Environmental Justice Network, Citizens Climate Lobby, Charge Across Town, The Climate Center, Kieshaun White (Clean Air Experiment), Central Valley Clean Air Coalition and Tree Fresno.
The Sustainability Club is delighted to bring this information to you while celebrating Earth Day with participation from people with diverse backgrounds, majors and interests. Join us by registering at bit.ly/FSDigitalEarthDay.
Fresno State’s Sustainability Club looks forward to seeing you!
