Fresno State student volunteers raised $41,338 on March 6 for Valley Children’s Hospital Kids Day. Fresno State volunteers sold papers from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. at intersections across the Central Valley, with many groups staking out corners the day before.
“Each year I am amazed at the amount of Fresno State volunteers that get up early on a Tuesday morning to sell newspapers and raise money for Valley Children’s Hospital," said Taylan Bennett, Special Projects Coordinator for the Jan and Bud Richter Center for Community Engagement and Service-Learning. "It is a great reminder of the commitment Fresno State makes to support our local community."
The majority of the volunteers were students, with over 60 clubs and organizations represented. Special recognition to Fresno State Army ROTC for raising the most donations with a total of over $8,000 raised. Many campus offices also contribute to the success of Kids Day, including Enrollment Services and University Police.
