To dam or not to dam?
The question is whether increased water storage is worth the costs.

The proposed Temperance Flat Dam on the San Joaquin River would be the first major dam built in our region in half a century. Thanks to California voters, money is there to help build it. But would it be a good idea? Proponents of the dam’s water-storage capabilities say it would become an important way to survive future drought and protect the groundwater supply. Opponents say the $3 billion project isn’t worth it and would destroy existing hydroelectric power generating facilities and Native American archeological sites. The Madden Library brings together two experts with opposing views: In favor is Mario Santoyo, executive director of the San Joaquin Valley Water Infrastructure Authority; and opposed is Chris Acree, executive director of Revive the San Joaquin.
