Andy Fisherm, author of Big Hunger: The Unholy Alliance Between Corporate America and Anti-Hunger Groups, speaks April 18, noon to 1 p.m., ED 187.
In his book, Fisher argues that the “emergency food system” has become an industry. The presence of a food bank means that there is a problem and that our food system is broken.
Dr. Dvera Saxton (Anthropology) has teamed up with FoodLink for Tulare County to host local conversations with Fisher.
“Andy Fisher is an expert on a variety of food system topics and tactics, including food policy councils, community food assessments, healthy corner stores, coalition building, and farm to cafeteria programs,” said Dr. Saxton. “We’re excited that he’s agreed to join us for our Food Justice series here at Fresno State. His insights are critical to address disparities and promote equity because he lays out a broader vision to community food grounded in public health, economic justice, and economic democracy.”
Fisher's visit to the Valley culminates with a casual dinner and conversation at FoodLink for Tulare County in Exeter on April 20.
