Business Officer Magazine recently featured Fresno State in an article, "Bold Takes Hold," by Kathleen Scott (Administrative Services) and Rudy Sanchez (Faculty Affairs). The article discusses how Fresno State’s institutionwide program, Creativity and Innovation for Effectiveness, is helping the University make headway in supporting a culture of risk taking. The program seeks to stimulate innovative thinking across the campus community in order to move from incremental improvement to really challenging the way things are done.
Innovations and improvements mentioned in the article included a mobile app for students, a new onboarding program for employees, an annual leadership conference for area high school students, and continuous improvement and lean practices in various units across campus.
Something dramatically different was in the works with the appointment of Dr. Joseph I. Castro as Fresno State’s eighth president in 2013, the article notes. Dr. Castro brought new energy to the 100-year-old institution that serves nearly 25,000 predominantly low-income and first-generation students in the Valley. The president became the impetus for change by challenging the campus to act, think, and be bold.
